Cricket bat size chart: junior to adult
Use player height to find a starting size, then compare the maker's chart. Harrow covers 165 to 170 cm in Kookaburra's guide, but other brands draw the boundary differently.

Where the charts overlap
Adult-transition range, 160 to 200 cm. SH and longer options can overlap. Newbery leaves 190.5 to 193.04 cm unspecified.
Bands beyond the diagram continue where the maker gives no upper limit. The full numerical results above take precedence.
How to use the cricket bat size chart
Measure the player's height without shoes. The main table uses Kookaburra's centimetre bands; its feet-and-inches labels are rounded. These numbers describe the player's height, not the length of the bat.
Start with that size, then check the brand you are buying. Length is only one part of fit: compare the weight and pickup of the actual bat too.
Harrow and adult sizes: compare the makers
The guides below use different bands and names. Read each row as that maker's advice; a shared size label does not establish identical dimensions.
Newbery publishes its bands in feet and inches. GM pairs 1.69 m with 5 ft 7 in as approximate guidance, so do not treat those as an exact conversion.
| Maker | Harrow | Intermediate or adult guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Kookaburra | 165 to 170 cm | Small Adult: 170 to 175 cm. Short Handle: 175 to 183 cm. |
| Newbery | 5 ft 5 to 5 ft 7 | Academy: 5 ft 7 to 5 ft 9. Short Handle: 5 ft 9 to 6 ft 3. |
| Gray-Nicolls | 5 ft 3 to 5 ft 8 in its general FAQ | Short Handle: from 5 ft 8. The FAQ also links to product size guides. |
| GM | Taller juniors and teenagers; no numeric Harrow band on this page | Full-size bats: generally for adult players from about 1.69 m / 5 ft 7. |
Two examples where the brand changes the answer
At 162 cm, Kookaburra's table points to Size 6. The same height sits inside Gray-Nicolls' broad Harrow range. Before ordering, check the specific product guide and compare the neighbouring bats in hand.
At 174 cm, Kookaburra points to Small Adult and Newbery to Academy, while Gray-Nicolls' general guidance includes Short Handle. Small Adult and Academy are useful labels to ask about, but their dimensions should not be assumed to match.
These examples compare published charts. They are not individual fittings and do not tell you which weight a player can control.
What if you are exactly between two sizes?
At 165 cm, for example, Kookaburra's Size 6 and Harrow bands meet. BatFit displays the smaller starting size at a shared boundary and prompts you to try both. That is how this calculator handles the overlap; the manufacturer does not prescribe our tie-break.
An imperial boundary can fall a little above a rounded centimetre label: 5 ft 7 is 170.18 cm. Keep the measured height when asking a maker for advice instead of rounding it to force a different size.
In your usual gloves and stance, compare a few controlled movements with both bats. If the longer option feels awkward, the adult label is not a reason to choose it. A junior should be able to use the bat now.
What about Size 0?
Newbery includes Size 0 below 4 ft. Kookaburra's published chart starts with Size 1. For a smaller child, ask to compare these sizes and check which ball the bat is intended for.
Short Handle and Long Handle are not the same as blade length
A longer handle and a longer blade change different parts of the bat. GM's L540 and L555 names describe blade length. Ask for the whole bat length as well as the size label when comparing different makers.
Before you order
Give the maker the player's measured height and current bat size. A useful comparison includes the actual bats, not just two size names.
- Confirm the selected size is offered in that model.
- Ask for its overall length and weight with the grip fitted.
- Compare its pickup with the current bat where possible.
- Check the intended ball type and any preparation still needed.
- Check the returns terms before using or altering the bat.
