Junior Cricket Bat Sizing: Fit for Now, Not Just Growth
The most expensive junior bat is the one a child cannot control. Height supplies a sensible starting size, but stance, strength and repeated swing control decide whether that size works today.

Measure without shoes on a level floor. BatFit uses height bands as a first pass from Size 1 through Harrow, then asks about the current bat and the player's control. Manufacturer charts can vary, so treat any single boundary as a prompt to compare rather than an automatic purchase.
Check stance and pickup
With the player in a normal stance, the bat should not force the hands or shoulders into an awkward position. Ask for several smooth swings and a controlled defensive movement. Watch for the toe dropping, the head moving to compensate, or the hands being dragged through the shot.
Why buying for growth can backfire
An oversized or unnecessarily heavy bat may last longer in the cupboard, but it can reduce control during the period when movement patterns are being learned. Growth matters; it should influence when to review the fit, not justify a poor fit now.
Guardian-led remote fitting
A parent or guardian should handle the submission and receive the private result. BatFit accepts structured junior fittings during the pilot, but junior video and images remain disabled until a separate guardian-email verification step exists.
- Use a guardian email for the result.
- Do not submit school, club, location or medical details.
- Choose whether a retailer may contact the guardian.
- Review the fit again after a growth spurt.
- Use an in-person check whenever the remote fit remains uncertain.
